By now you’re probably asking yourself, “Why are there still so many big names on the MLB’s roster?”
The short answer is, it’s all about the money.
As much as you might love to watch players like Yoenis Cespedes, Edwin Encarnacion, and Matt Holliday in your favorite MLB team, if you want to get the most bang for your buck, you’re going to have to shell out a little extra cash to get those big names.
According to Baseball Prospectus, the MLB average MLB salary this year is $24.8 million.
If you’re a fan of a team like the New York Yankees, that’s $10 million more than the average MLB player is paid this year.
While the MLB minimum salary is $9.25 million, a few teams, like the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers, can offer a lot more than that.
However, with a small number of teams, the money is nowhere near enough to fill out a team’s roster.
So why aren’t there more big name players in the major leagues?
Part of the answer is that the league is still very much a business.
The league has yet to set any rules for players’ compensation and, in order to get there, the league needs more money.
MLBPA President Mike Trout told Forbes earlier this year that he thinks the league could soon be able to set some guidelines that would allow for more money for players, and, hopefully, more players would be able make a living.
So, while we’re still not quite there, there are still some major league players who can make a decent living from the sport.
Here are 10 big names who have made a decent amount of money from the game.1.
